Erasmus Campus Cafe: Where the Local Students Love to Go
If you are looking for cheap beers & lots of interactions with other people, look no further.

Café Smitse is located on the campus of Rotterdam where both the Erasmus university & Hogeschool Rotterdam (business school) is located. It is easily reachable by metro, just go to station Kralingse Zoom and from there you can take one of the many buses and it only takes 2 minutes. However, we do recommend walking, as you can already experience the atmosphere of the campus. You can also take the tram from the city center and get out at the stop called Erasmus Universiteit. From there the high buildings of the school are clearly visible and quite impressive. The tram’s you can take are tram 7 towards Woudestein or tram 21/24 towards de De Esch. An additional thing, especially for football fans,is that if you reach near the point where you need to get out and look to your right, you can see the football stadium of Excelsior, which is one of 3 professional clubs in Rotterdam.

Smitse is a café that is run by volunteers of the university. They have a lot of different beers both in bottles, on tap, and in enormous pitchers for you to share with the people around you. Because most of the employees are volunteers, the beers can be offered for a lower price, more student friendly. And of course, many students visit Smitse to have a beer after their long & hard days of studying, but also teachers and other workers who are in some way related to the school. On the erasmus website, they even mention a rumor that many students, who didn’t even have something to do at school, still visit the café for a beer at the end of the day.
